The orphanage is located in a small village "Chinamyaranyam", about 30 miles from Tirupati, India. Chinmayaranyam is registered with the Government of India as a charitable, not for profit organization.

As the name indicates the orphanage is in real wilderness. The orphanage has close to 70 orphan children and in dire need of monetary support. The orphanage is located in the premises of an ashram (monastery). The ashram is affiliated with Chinmaya Mission and was initiated by Swamini Sarada Priyananda, and is currently managed by Swamini Sheelananda. She is a selfless, highly dedicated, principled, and disciplined person leading the monastery.

The children are cared for by the brahmacharis and brahmacharinies who are at the monastery for religious training. The children go to regular school, which is managed by the monastery. The school houses up to 10th grade and follows the State Government sponsored curriculum. There is a small hospital (funded by AAPI) to cater the health care needs of the children.

The children are housed in separate residential halls for the boys and girls. The children are fed three meals in monastery dining hall. The ashram has cultivatable land and grows vegetables and other staples, thus are partly self sufficient. The school is housed in several huts with partially raised walls, and requires monetary support to convert into enclosed rooms.

The Foundation invites any donor going to India to visit the orphanage and provide your feedback to the Foundation.

Sarada Sakthi Peetham is located in small village, Old Perangalathur, near Thambaram about 20 miles from Chennai. This orphanage is initiated by Swami Sarvathmananda, who is ordained in Rama Krishna Mission, and is currently managed by Raja Packirisamy.

The orphanage has well maintained with separate residence halls for the boys and girls. There are about 40 boys and 30 girls in the orphanage. There are some college going senior students in the orphanage. The children go to public schools and are also tutored by the college going senior students. The orphanage has well equipped kitchen and a small temple. The children are fed three meals a day and well cared for. Day to Day work is assisted by some volunteers.

Sarada Sakthi Peetam has a branch location in Karaikkal (about 120 miles south of Chennai), where the children orphaned by Tsunami in 2005 are housed and cared for. The Foundation urges patrons to visit the Orphanage on your next visit to Chennai and provide your feedback.

The following is a report filed by Air Commodore K V Rao, a well wisher and liaison for HELP Foundation in Pune, after visiting the Ashram/Orphanage in the Spring of 2001. It provides an excellent insight on the functioning of the orphanage -

"Dr. Amit Kumar Bannerji is the Director of SAMPARC. The orphanage is located at Bhaje, near Malavli. The place is on the Pune-Mumbai Rail Line and on the Pune-Mumbai Super Highway. But access is by train, since the highway does not provide a link near Malavli, but much ahead at Lonavla. The Asram is at a scenic place in the valley of Lonavla with the Western Ghats surrounding. Since it is monsoon now, it has been raining almost incessantly. The hills are now lush green with innumerable water falls all around the Ashram.

The Orphanage is organized differently than those what I had seen elsewhere, which were centralized. The Balgram is organized as a number of Houses, each house looked after by a Mother who lives all the time in the house. A house has 10 children, of all ages. There are 10 houses. The house is like a normal home with a kitchen, bedroom, store room, living room and a bath room. Each house cooks its own food. The house has its own pets, a cat and a dog. I met the children who are in the kindergarten. The elder children go to local schools like any other child in the village. Those who complete school join college. I met two who were waiting to join an agriculture polytechnic.

The elder children are only girls where as the younger ones are both boys and girls. The children come to the Ashram through the government. The Magistrate deciding, they being the abandoned ones with the police rescuing them. There are three more Ashrams under SAMPARC, one at Alibaug, another at Chakkan and another at Anjar in Kutch. I met all the 10 children sponsored by HELP. they are all under 5 or 6 years of age. Some were away in the local school and the rest in the KG run by the Ashram.

The Ashram provides a free environment like a normal home, the Mother of each House, looking after all aspects of that house. There are play grounds community halls, hobby centers and a Vocational Training Center for training in basic trades. Each house is well equipped with all gadgets, even their own sewing machine. Each house has a guest room for the guests to stay when they come there to visit. Often there are students visiting them from Universities.

I found the children active and cheerful. They belonged to all creeds Marathi, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi speaking, at this stage. They are also of Hindu/Christian and Muslim religions as their names suggested (there is no common religion in the Ashram; some of the Mothers having a small niche each, of their own for worship). Most of them are supposed to have been abandoned by the sex workers.

The elder children have been doing well in school some have scored above 80% marks in the HSC Board exams and secured admissions to Professional Colleges. One child even got a scholarship to study French in France. The Ashram has a computer center with 10 computers and Multimedia. Apart from the Mothers there are KG teachers, Vocational teachers and Supervisors but all doubling up and doing all chores. The Ashram has an orchard for cultivation and growing fruit and vegetables. On the whole it appeared to be running well and administered with a human touch.

Mr.Amal Ganguly

Dr. Bannerji is experienced in this kind of social work having worked with various organizations before starting of on his own at this village. He has another project to run a school for the tribal children in the Mulsi Taluk, sponsored by the Mahindras. He appeared to be an active and energetic person. He is well acquainted with the government regulations and seems to know people around well. There is no regimentation but it is well controlled.

The Houses prepared food for my lunch. It was tasty and is home food. I spent some time with the children who were very keen to talk to me but Marathi is still my weak point. It was a touching experience. I explained to Shri Bannerji the paper work that was required to be completed fast. He took the photos in my presence of the 10 children selected to be sponsored, out of the 98 living in that Ashram. Hopefully he will complete all the work soon. After that I will have a look for completeness. I advised him to dispatch by speed post so that the material reaches you before the due date to you."

Orissa is one of the poorest states in India and is a place for several primitive tribes. The 1999 cyclone orphaned several children. Swami Pranarupananda, who was ordained in Rama Krishna Mission, took up the task to save some of these children. Swamiji established an orphanage in Uttara, about 20 miles from Bhubaneshwar. The orphanage is housed in a small one room building and supported by several volunteers. There are 30 children and all are crammed in the same room. The children are educated in the near by public school. Swamiji takes lots of pains in raising funds to take care of these children.

Lovedale Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to empower the education of under- privileged children since it’s inception in 2001. Through the years, Lovedale is a place where abandoned and disadvantaged children who have hereto experienced violence, fear, exploitation, are given shelter love and hope… hope for a bright, self-sufficient future.

Lovedale imparts quality education and training in life skills to these children. The motto of the organization is ---- that disadvantaged children can dream about a future once they get an education. The Bangalore City Police Commissioner’s Office recognizes Lovedale Foundation’s Children’s Home as one of the preferred homes for orphaned and abandoned children.

The Lovedale Foundation is located in Kalyana Nagar in the outskirts of Bangalore. It is managed by Jenny, who has left her job in the airlines industry. Jenny’s mother Ponnamma Mathews, who is a retired Pricipal of a Higher Secondary School, supports Jenny in the management.

With a goal of building up a fund worth 1.25 million US dollars, HELP currently supports 125 orphaned and destitute children at five different locations in India. It costs Rs.12000 (about $300) to support one orphan child per year. Once a child is admitted to the orphanage, usually at the age 5 or below, it is the responsibility of the orphanage to support the child until they finish High School at age 18.

To provide continuous support, the Foundation creates an endowment with $3000 for each child. The money will be kept in the bank under the control of the Foundation, and the interest earned will be spent to support a child. This will provide perpetual support for each child. We put together a flexible program for your consideration.


HELP relies only on the interest from the capital to support the 125 children. Thus we need $37,500 each year presently. As we do not realize this from yield alone, we supplement it by other “fund raising means” mentioned earlier in the process of finance flow.


Nevertheless, sponsorships are a direct means of helping orphaned and destitute children grow up into respectable global citizens.

HELP holds Walkathons as a “A Fun-filled Fund Raising Event”.

Why are HELP Walkathons conducted?

With a goal of building up a fund of 1.25 million US dollars, HELP currently supports 125 orphaned and destitute children at five different locations in India. The Annual Walkathons contribute considerably towards this mission of HELP. Currently, the event typically raises between $30,000 and $40,000 each year.

Besides being a major fund raiser, the Walkathon appends the capital if possible for the build-up of the PNC Trust, so that once the goal of $1.25 million is reached, more children can be sponsored without fear of loss of capital. More money will allow HELP to expand their horizon of help to the “other” needy children.

Increasing participation in the HELP Walkathon provides existing volunteers an opportunity to motivate and increase community awareness about HELP and its cause. The novel concept of zero-dollar administrative reserves motivates more walkers and audience to volunteer their own bit to the cause. Most observers volunteer to spread the noble message among the walkers’ friends, family and colleagues, thus advancing the cause to a different level, every year.

Participation in the walkathon will not only enable You to reach and touch lives of 125 little children, it will confer infinite health and fitness benefits upon You.

Buying Gift Certificates won’t cost you anything !

Because….the buyer of GCs does not pay eventually..! You can redeem the exact value of goods from the super-market, as the cost that you have purchased the coupons at. It is the supermarkets that contribute from the profit they obtain through goods sold in return for GCs.
